Congratulations to the Spring 2013 Scholarship Winners

Three entrants have won scholarships to TechEd North America and //Build. They will each receive a ticket, airfare and accomodations to the conference of their choice.


TechEd 2013 Winners

Esha Deshpande created an application called "Starbucks - A Cup of Joe". The app basically gives you a random coffee to drink everyday. It is a Windows Phone app that uses Telerik (Image button) and ComponentOne (Map) controls. The application was created to be fun and has social media aspect, as well as a Starbucks finder.


Bernard Avenatti created an entry called "VM Status Web App", an application to gain machine latency and interactions. It is a web based application using Telerik (Gauge and Textbox) and DevExpress (ASP.Net Control) controls which provides real time network data in gauges via the web, a very good example of solving a Line of Business problem.


//Build Winner

Eric Ziko created an application called ".Net Rocks Search Engine", which was basically a search engine for .Net Rocks podcasts. It is a web based application that uses AtalaSoft (PDF Reader) and Telerik (KendoUI) controls. The application was born out of a need to find various .Net Rocks topics. He also include Hanselminutes, The Tablet show, and RunAs Radio.

The Rules:

Any .NET web or mobile application (ASP.NET, WPF, Silverlight, Windows Phone 7, MVC) built during the last year using at least 2 components from at least 2 approved vendors. Accompany your code with a 3-5 minute sales pitch video using YouTube or Camtasia video showing your entry and telling us which components you used and why your application is cool. The more creative the entry, the better. Our judges will review the submissions and the best ones will win a scholarship to an upcoming conference. INETA will cover one conference ticket, hotel, and travel to the conference as is outlined in INETA's travel policy for each scholarship.

The Judging:

Entries will be judged on four criteria:

  1. Effective use of vendor components/controls to solve a problem/display data
  2. Innovation
  3. Impact using components (i.e. reduction in lines of code written, increased productivity, etc.)
  4. Creativity

The Submission Process:

  1. Review the components offered by our approved vendors and select components from at least two of these vendors.
  2. Your submitted application must have been built in the last year using components from our approved vendors.
  3. Make a 3-5 minute Camtasia video showing your entry and describing what components you used and why your application is cool. Video must be in WMV format. You can get a free trial of Camtasia here. If you need help with Camtasia you can download a PDF or view online training.
  4. Zip up your movie and send it using YouSendIt Lite or to Be sure to include your email address in the from line and include the names of the component vendor products you used in the message line. Also please include the name and location of the conference you would like to attend.

The Prizes:

  • Conference Scholarship: A scholarship to an upcoming conference that includes the conference pass, airfare and hotel, according to INETA's travel policy.
  • Prize Packs: Other top entrants will receive a prize pack full of full licenses to controls and other goodies donated by our vendors.

He has workedat providing line of business solutions in SharePoint, BizTalk, Microsoft CRM, WCF, WPF, Silverlight, MVC, Mobile and Web, to name a few. Was part of an award winning team for SkyMinders at the AT&T Mobile Hackathon in Orlando in 2011. He sits on the Board of Directors for a Microsoft .Net Event driven user group. He is an INETA regional and Microsoft community speaker and has presented line of business discussions at TechED (BOF), user groups, and various code camps throughout Florida. Travel arrangements will be made by INETA NorAm and will include round trip air and up to 4 nights hotel accomodations. Conference pass will be purchased by INETA NorAm.
