That "I" in INETA does stand for International
There is so much now happening on that front that you will find a lot of international news in this issue of the INETA newsletter.

INETA Welcomes #200!

We are very very happy to announce that we have just recently approved our 200th User Group into INETA!! The group that was the official #200 group hails from Mexico and is called: Grupo .NET Estado de México y Norte del DF. You can see their website at http://www.tutordes.com/comunidad.net

More Speakers Added!

User Groups love the INETA Speakers Bureau. We send out well known authors and presenters who are leading .NET experts, software legends and more to local user group meetings and even pay for the pizza upon request! Given the popularity of this program, we would quickly reach capacity on our existing speakers’ ability to fill the huge number of requests that we’re receiving from Seattle to Jacksonville, Toronto to Quebec and all points in between. The solution: Invite more “.NET stars” to join the Speakers Bureau. We have recently added new speakers who are also leading presenters and authors and are looking forward to getting these stellar speakers out to as many User Group events as they can handle. Look at the Speakers Bureau tab for a complete listing, but we’ve now added: Mike Amundsen, Michelle Bustamante, Jonathan Goodyear, Deborah Kurata, Paul Litwin, Brent Rector, Steven Smith, Ken Spencer and Stephen Walther.

INETA Revs up in South America

Jose Berrios from the User Group Relations Committee has just returned from a very successful trip to Peru where he started the launch of INETA Latino America with the MUG-PERU DevDays in Lima. A presentation about INETA was made to the attendees and INETA also donated a library of books to the local user group or MUG. The event lasted two days and included speakers from across the Andean region in South America. In attendance were over 800 developers all eager to hear and devour the information and resources available about .NET. Jose was very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of the Peruvian developers. Of notice were several innovative programs for developers and the User Group community like the Five Star Developer program and the .NET University among a few things. Read more about the trip, event, and resources for User Groups found in LATAM in next month’s newsletter.

Just in time for the Holidays: the Winter Warmup

In the spirit of facilitating communications between user groups and the thriving .NET third party community, INETA sent out a “Winter Warmup” shipment in November. Members of the .NET third party community contributed products to be given away at user group meetings. For this initial shipment, INETA sent these packages to 120 user groups throughout the US. Did we miss you? Not to worry: future shipments, as well as duplicating this program in other parts of the world, are both ideas that are being considered.

We would gratefully like to acknowledge the generous contributions of:

Addison-Wesley, Altova, Apress, ARTech/DeKlarit, CMP Media LLC, ComponentSource, Informant Communications Group, Manning Publications Inc., NetIQ, Orcsweb, Rational Software Dev, RichTextBox, Sams Publishing, Wiley Technology Publishing, Wintellect and Wrox

Thanks also to the Marketing and Sponsorship committee for all of their hard work and all of these wonderful goodies. You can contact them for further info at marketing@ineta.org.

New! INETA Content Managers

INETA has created two new management positions called "Content Managers". Brian Tinkler from the Wisconsin .NET UG (www.wi-ineta.org) and Devin Rader from the St. Louis .NET UG (www.stlnet.org) have been selected for these positions and will collaborate together to help reach INETA’s overall objectives. Brian previously served as Co-Chair for the User Group Relations Committee and Devin played an instrumental role in the great success of the Speakers Bureau.  Both have worked with INETA since its official launch earlier this year and are looking forward to continuing to serve INETA and all member UGs.

INETA members who have content in the form of files (presentations, video, even user group site related source code)  to share with other UG leaders via the INETA web site Content Repository, can already add their files directly through the Add to Repository form. Feel free to contact Brian and Devin at content@ineta.org for any ideas or questions related to this or other content. Additionally, if you have any ideas for the INETA website, these are the guys to talk to!

Devin and Brian will also be soliciting your help to gather content for other INETA communications, including such things as the new User Group Startup Kit, the INETA newsletter, and other communications that will be forthcoming.  The INETA newsletter will still be managed by Julia Lerman and will continue to leverage the collective input of all of the INETA committees.

Congratulations and many thanks to Brian and Devin for taking on this big and very important task!

Crossing Borders with INETA

The International flavor of INETA is already very evident with over 30 countries represented. At ASP Connections in Orlando, we had the great fortune of representation from a number of these countries. We also met two men from India who are now helping us with our relations with user groups from that country. INETA Europe is getting truly revved up under the auspices of Christian Nagel.

Here in North America, the community aspect of INETA gets even more interesting. Because of their proximity to the US/Canadian border, the u.g. in Montreal (www.guvsm.org) has been working together with the Vermont .Net group (www.vtdotnet.org)  to share event information and even INETA speakers. INETA speaker, Jeff Prosise, will be speaking (in English) in Montreal in early December and there are a number of VTdotNet members registered for this event. UG Leader Guy Barrette has hooked the Montreal FoxPro user group (www.mfug.ca) with INETA and there will be some collaboration between VTdotNET and MFUG for the production of a big developer conference coming up in May in Montreal. All of this is thanks to connecting through INETA. That we are crossing borders in these ways is truly amazing! Now if they would just stop trying to steal our best Vermont hockey players...

In the Forums (of www.ineta.org)

First some numbers: There are almost 1,300 registered users in the INETA forums. That's a large number for our short existence! And there are currently over 80 separate threads. These are all  leader to leader conversations. We think this is fantastic!

Here is an interesting recent thread. NYC Dot Net Developer's group is trying to gear up for a C# study group, but realize that they have some strategic tasks to work out. Read some of this discussion under "User Group Leaders/Open Discussion/ Starting a C# Study Group". This particular thread the way, is in the User Group Leaders section of the forums, so you if you are a user group leader member of INETA, you need to be logged in to access it.

Tips for your User Group Website

Let your members recommend links. Rather than be limited to links dug up by the webmaster, VTdotNet has a page where members can enter links that they find interesting. They can enter their name, the url and a description of the link. The data goes right into a sql server database and is then spit back out in a multi-paged datalist for all to see.

Speaking of links, here is a great resource for WinForms questions. We came across this super FAQ and Forum resource for Winforms and thought you might like to share it with your members: George Shepherd's Windows Forms FAQ http://www.syncfusion.com/FAQ/Winforms/

Remember: Your UG website is the perfect playground for learning ASP.Net and impressing friends, relatives and your fellow UG members!
